Howelsen Hill Nordic Center

The Howelsen Touring Center is located in the center of Steamboat Springs and is part of the Howelsen Hill Sports Complex which includes the alpine ski area, the ice skating rink, Nordic jumping hills, snow board half-pipe, alpine slide, rodeo grounds and horse stables, and summer biking, hiking and equestrian trails. At this time there are about 20 km of groomed trail. From late December through March the trails are groomed on a daily to every other day schedule. In general the trails tend to be more aerobically and technically challenging than any of the other Nordic areas in Routt County. While the Nordic Center maintains an open attitude toward responsible trail use by the public, these same trails have been part of the Nordic Combined World Cup Cross country course as well as several other high level regional and national Nordic skiing competitions the past several years. The Howelsen Nordic Center is not a full service touring center at this time. Area users must have there own equipment or rent equipment from one of the full service Nordic centers or shops in the area.

Steamboat Lake State Park Touring Center

The Steamboat Lake State Park Touring Center is located at over 8000 feet of elevation and offers some of the best early and late season snow in the area. Located within the boundaries of the park the touring center is nestled between Hahn's Peak and Sand Mountain just 40 minutes North of Steamboat Springs. Trail users are required to purchase a daily parks pass, which is $7.00 per vehicle. Passes are available at the park visitor center or from the self-service station during the evenings. The touring center features 15 kilometers of groomed trails and all trails are groomed at least twice per week. Most of the terrain in the area is beginner and intermediate but there are a few more challenging runs as well. If you enjoy well groomed trails, breathtaking views, and no crowds you will love this area.
