Cross Country Skiing

Experience cross country skiing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado with plenty of ski trails and the equipment you need to make your day outside enjoyable.

Steamboat Ski Touring Center


The Steamboat Ski Touring Center has 15km of groomed cross-country ski and snowshoe trails for all ability levels, winding through the aspen groves and along beautiful Fish Creek, offering some of the most enjoyable and accessible wintertime recreation in the Yampa Valley.


The Steamboat Ski Touring Center is open daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm and has a full service cross-country ski rental and retail ski shop. Snowshoe rentals also available.


From Highway 40, exit Mt. Werner road and go towards Steamboat Ski Area. Turn left onto Steamboat Blvd, then a right onto Clubhouse Drive and follow the Steamboat Ski Touring Center signs. We offer complimentary shuttle service from the Gondola Transit Center with pick-ups at 9:15am and 12:30pm, returning at 12:40pm and 4:15pm.

Basic Package

The basic cross-country ski rental package includes skis from Fischer, boots and bindings from Salomon, and Exel poles. All sizes available.

High Performance Package

The high performance cross-country ski rental package features demo skis from Fischer, Rossignol, and Madshus, and Salomon boots and bindings. Skate and classic skis available.

Group Lesson

The one-hour group lesson will teach you the most efficient techniques for cross-country skiing on all types of terrain and/or improve on your skills. All ability levels welcome.

Private Lesson

The one-hour private lesson will allow you to work on your skills one-on-one with an instructor.

Skate Lesson

Try nordic skate skiing or improve your skills with the one hour group skating lesson. All ability levels welcome.

Classic Cross Country skiing is recommended for beginners.

Rocky Mountain Ventures


Get off the mountain and out of town, cover some ground on a guided backcountry cross-country ski tour in the beautiful mountains surrounding Steamboat. See amazing views of the valley, wildlife and the mountain peaks. All equipment and instruction is provided and no experience is necessary.Learn to kick and glide away from the crowds and into the backcountry.

Tour includes transportation from guests' lodging, skis, boots, poles, backpack, snack and hot drink. Tour location and length depends on weather conditions, physical ability and client preference. Backcountry areas may include Rabbit Ears Pass or private land. We have igloos built on some trails that are great places to warm up and have a snack. Children, teenagers and adults are all welcome. Rates are dependent upon group size; select appropriately or call to be added to a group.

Cross Country skis, boots, poles, backpacks, snack and thermos provided. Dress warm, as if you were going skiing or snowboarding, with layers you can add or shed.

Meeting Location

For cross country ski trips, we can provide transportation from our downtown location (kiosk on the corner of 5th & Lincoln, in front of Mahogany Ridge Restaurant) or clients can follow in their own vehicles. Rocky Mountain Ventures can transport 1-4 guests. Parties of 5 or more will need to drive separately or contact us in advance to set up alternate transportation; fees may apply.


Trip Times: Half day is from 8:00am to 12:00pm or 1:00pm.
