Early storm sparks excitement along with Rox / Sox World Series
An early winter storm pounded Steamboat over the weekend with over five inches of snow accumulating in downtown and over 10 inches stacking up at mid-mountain.
I spent Saturday morning getting my last licks in at Haymaker Golf Course with my dad who is visiting from Boston. We played the first seven holes in brilliant sunshine, wearing shorts and t-shirts. Before we got to the 10th tee, the clouds had rolled in on the back of 30-45 mile per hour winds. We layered up and were able to finish 18 holes before the snow began to fly.
As the Red Sox were taking the field in Boston to defeat the Indians in the ALCS, it was a total white-out in Steamboat Springs. The giddiness in my household was palpable as we contemplated a Rockies vs. Red Sox World Series with the snow swirling outside. Being a New England transplant, my heart is with the Red Sox, but the Rockies are the Home Team for crying-out-loud! And they’ve only been a Major League team for less than 15 years. I'd never dreamed I would be gunning for tickets to see the Red Sox play a World Series in Colorado.
Well, this early dump is a sure sign of things to come (see additional story below). Between the Rockies, Red Sox, and the promise of skiing powder…I’m as excited as a kid on Christmas morning – which is also coming up soon.

As reported by Alexis DeLaCruz in the Steamboat Today
Wednesday night's storm could signal the beginning of a good ski season in Steamboat Springs.
Joe Ramey, a National Weather Service meteorologist in Grand Junction, said Thursday that another storm is expected to dump more snow on the area this weekend. And although that snow will melt by early next week, Routt County residents should keep their shovels handy in the coming months.
Despite National Weather Service reports in September that predicted above-average temperatures and average precipitation for the Steamboat area through February, Ramey said Routt County could be in store for a winter similar to that of 2005-06...[read more of the story]
