34th Annual Cowboy Downhill
2008 Steamboat Family Snow Festival
95th Winter Carnival
|

Steamboat Springs has been enduring another blast of snow lately. The "Monster Storm" (as it was called on TV and in the newspapers) that walloped California last week, sashayed into Colorado and produced copious amounts of snow for Steamboat and the surrounding mountains. The sun came out for a couple hours on Tuesday morning, but as I write this on Wednesday afternoon Steamboat is under a Snow Advisory issued by the National Weather Service. Six inches had fallen late last night and 10 more are expected before this storm moves on later tonight. If you haven't made plans to visit Steamboat this winter, I think it is about time. Below you'll find more reasons to vacation in Steamboat than just the snow, like the 34th Annual Cowboy Downhill, the 2008 Steamboat Family Snow Festival, and the 95th Winter Carnival.
34th Annual Cowboy Downhill

It all began nearly 35 years ago when Billy Kidd, Steamboat's Director of Skiing, and Larry Mahan, six-time All-Around World Champion cowboy, decided to invite a few of the ProRodeo stars to Steamboat for a day of skiing.
The cowboys had such a great time that the Downhill has become the most popular event of the season with over 100 of the best professional rodeo cowboys competing in the most unique ski rodeo in the country.

95th Winter Carnival

The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club is pleased to host the 95th Winter Carnival. Beginning as the organizing committee for the first Winter Carnival, the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC) has maintained the Carnival as a service to the community since 1914. The Winter Carnival started as a way to help locals with cabin fever during the height of the winter season and has continued to this day as a way to celebrate winter, which is such an important part of our daily lives here in the Yampa Valley.
